Transient Global Amnesia Resulting from Mild Trauma

چکیده
Two cases are presented with clinical manifestations and neuropsychological evaluations which confirm the diagnosis of transient global amnesia (TGA). Their interest lies in the fact that in both cases the episodes were a result of light traumas. It was proposed that TGA was triggered by vascular changes resulting from a mild (whiplash or head) trauma.

Neurosyphilis showing transient global amnesia-like attacks and magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities mainly in the limbic system.
We report a case of neurosyphilis with transient global amnesia (TGA)-like attacks on the first presentation. MRI abnormalities in bilateral limbic systems, including a few lesions in the basal ganglia and thalamus, were identified. Depression and dementia became apparent, accompanied by a high treponemal antibody titer and mild cortical atrophy. Antisyphilitic therapy brought about mild improv...

Transient epileptic amnesia (TEA) is a seizure disorder characterized by brief, recurrent attacks of amnesia in middleaged or elderly subjects, often occurring on waking, with favorable response to anticonvulsant medication [1]. While this syndrome is becoming increasingly recognized, its association with transient global amnesia (TGA) is not fully understood. It remains unknown whether TEA is ...

Transient epileptic amnesia (TEA) is a recently recognized subtype of temporal lobe epilepsy. TEA is characterized by brief, recurrent attacks of amnesia in late middle to old-aged subjects, averaging 60 years of age [1,2]. In nearly half the cases, patients complain of long term accelerated forgetting and autobiographical memory impairment in 70% [2]. Bartsch and Butler proposed diagnostic cri...
متن کاملTransient global amnesia or transient epileptic amnesia?
Sir, We read with great interest the letter of McCorry and Crowley concerning an attack of transient global amnesia (TGA) considered secondary to herpes simplex viral encephalitis. Some features of the reported attack are unusual. The patient was a relatively young person: 39 years compared with an average age of 61 with TGA. At the beginning the patient suddenly became ‘distressed’; he realize...
